Brainstorm marketing & fundraising campaigns

Draft social media & blog posts that drive empathy

Ask Google Workspace with Gemini to write compelling marketing content that raises awareness of your cause and encourages fundraising. Generate drafts for social media or blog posts, email newsletters, ad copy, or website content. Target your audience based on what they care about or where they live. Let AI generate ideas, then modify results to get the right tone.

Setup:

In a Google Doc, use Help me Write  to write new text.

Prompt:

"Write a blog post that generates empathy about [your cause] and encourages donations to [your organization]. Target your language at [audience]."

Examples of the audience might be "outdoor enthusiasts" or "parent" or "people in your community."

Create attention-grabbing email campaigns

Google Workspace with Gemini can help you create compelling email campaigns. Write an email requesting a donation from a person who has contributed to your cause in the past. Ask Gemini to suggest attention-grabbing subject lines, personalize the email message, and include an effective call to action.

Setup:

In a Gmail compose window use Help me Write  to write a new email.

Prompts:

"Write 3 compelling subject lines for an email requesting donations to help [your cause]."

"Write an email requesting a donation from a person who has contributed to your cause in the past. Add a personal touch by mentioning how [something personal about the person] is relevant to [your cause]. Emphasize how to make the donation."

Examples of something personal might be something from their public profile, such as their profession, a hobby, or where they live.

Create visuals that raise awareness

In Slides, Google Workspace with Gemini can create custom images for newsletters or your organization's website that raise awareness about your cause. Also create visually appealing presentations for stakeholder meetings or educational outreach programs.

Setup:

In Google Slides, use Create image  to generate new artwork.

Prompts:

"Create an image for a newsletter that raises awareness about [the problem your nonprofit is trying to solve]."

"Create a conceptual image for a presentation to board members of a nonprofit that shows effective money management. The nonprofit supports [your cause]."

Plan a fundraising campaign or event

In Sheets, Google Workspace with Gemini can help outline a marketing plan and budget for an upcoming fundraising event. Tell it to include any activities or attractions, such as live music or lunch from a local caterer. Let the AI create a table with placeholder values and information that you can then update.

Setup:

In a blank Google Sheet, use Ask Gemini  to build a new table.

 ""

Prompt:

"Create a table outlining a marketing plan and budget for a fundraising campaign for [your cause or event]. Include a 2 month timeline. There will be live music and lunch from a local caterer."

Write grant applications & proposals

Google Workspace with Gemini can help with your entire grant-writing process, from researching and drafting to preparing for final submission. Be sure to review Gemini-generated content.

1. Summarize guidelines for grant applications

Google Workspace with Gemini can extract the main eligibility requirements from long or complex funding guidelines, such as from a government agency or charitable organization. Quickly understand the application process and whether your organization is eligible.

Setup:

In a Google Doc, insert and select the guidelines. Then use Help me Write  to enter a prompt asking Gemini about the selection.

Prompt:

"These eligibility requirements for applying for a grant are long and complicated. Rewrite these guidelines to briefly summarize specific requirements. Use shorter sentences and paragraphs that include bullet points to highlight key points."

2. Quickly explore a funder's priorities & focus

The most effective grant proposals target your prospective funder's primary goals and concerns. Google Workspace with Gemini can help extract these priorities from the funder's website or news articles. Save time on research, and get started writing a proposal that will resonate with your funder.

Setup:

In a Google Doc, insert and select the mission statement, a news article, or the "About us" section of the funder's website. Then use Help me Write  to enter a prompt asking Gemini about the selection.

Prompt:

"You are applying for a grant from [funder name]. Using only the information selected here, summarize the top 3 focus areas of importance to this funder."

3. Draft a targeted grant proposal

Based on the funder's priorities, Google Workspace with Gemini can then draft your proposal, using language aligned with the funder's goals and mission. Ask Gemini to include the goals of your project, KPIs, and budget requests. Use Gemini's draft as a starting point to revise as you want.

Setup:

In a Google Doc, insert and select the funder priorities identified in the previous tip. Then use Help me Write  to enter a prompt asking Gemini about the selection.

Prompt:

"Draft a proposal for a grant from [name of funder] to support [your cause]. Include goals, KPIs, and budget requests. Use language that targets the 3 focus areas selected here."

4. Edit for grammar, clarity, and consistency

After you complete your proposal, use Proofread to check your writing for spelling and grammar (available with Google Workspace with Gemini). Accept only the suggestions you agree with, and ensure a professionally written application.

  1. Open a document in Google Docs.
  2. In the top right, click Proofread this document Spell check. A panel will open on the right side.
    • To use a suggestion, click Accept suggestion .
    • To ignore a suggestion, click Dismiss suggestion .
    • To filter suggestions in the side panel, click Filter suggestions and check or uncheck suggestions.

Manage & engage donors

Create a donor database

Setup:

In a blank Google Sheet, use Ask Gemini  to build a new table.

 ""

Prompt:

"Create a table for tracking financial donors to a nonprofit organization. Include the campaign they donated to."

Write donor thank-you notes with a personalized touch

In a Gmail compose window use Help me Write  to write a new email.

Prompt:

"Write a thank-you email to a [first-time/long-time] donor for their [amount] donation [on date], on behalf of [context of donation]."

Examples of context of donation might be a specific campaign or a dedication to a loved one.

Draft newsletters that keep donors engaged

Google Workspace with Gemini can get you started drafting newsletter copy to keep donors engaged with the impact of their contributions. Gemini can provide a structure, suggest compelling language, and include placeholder content that you can easily refine. Use Gemini in Slides or at gemini.google.com to create graphics you can copy into your newsletter.

Recruit & train volunteers

Draft personalized recruitment emails

Engage prospective volunteers by highlighting the specific contributions they can make to your cause. Just tell Google Workspace with Gemini to draft a recruitment email that relates something personal about the prospect to your cause or event. For example, a finance professional could manage your budget, or a software engineer could improve your website.

Setup:

In a Gmail compose window use Help me Write  to write a new email.

Prompt:

"Draft an email to recruit a volunteer for a fundraising event for [your event or campaign]. The event is hosted by the [your organization] nonprofit organization. Mention the relevance of the event to [something personal about the person]. Highlight the specific contributions they can make to your organization."

Match volunteers to projects

Create summaries from long volunteer applications and resumes to quickly extract a prospect's key skills and interests. This can help you match volunteers to appropriate tasks or programs.

Setup:

In a Google Doc, insert and select the volunteer's application or resume. Then use Help me Write  to enter a prompt asking Gemini about the selection.

Prompt:

"This person is applying to volunteer for your nonprofit organization. Based only on this information, summarize their specific skills and interests so you can match them to the appropriate task or program."

Organize a webinar to train volunteers

In Sheets, Google Workspace with Gemini makes it easy to create agendas for webinars, training sessions, or other events. In just a few words, describe the event and who it's for. Then let Gemini generate ideas for sessions and timelines. Use its suggested agenda as a template for organizing your event.
