Change your video background

Learn how
  1. Go to Google Meet and then select a meeting.
  2. On the bottom right of your self view, click Apply visual effects .
    • To completely blur your background, click Blur your background .
    • To slightly blur your background, click Slightly blur your background .
    • To select a pre-uploaded background, click a background.
    • To upload your own image for your background, click Upload a background image Add photo.
    • To add a style to your video, click a style.
    • To select a filter, at the bottom, tap Filters and then the filter you want to use.
    • Tip: If the filter is interactive, follow the directions on the screen to activate it.
  3. Click Join Now.

Change your camera settings

  1. On your computer, open meet.google.com.
  2. Join a video meeting. 
  3. Before you join or during the meeting, click More  and then Settings .
  4. On the left, click Video and then Camera.
  5. Select a setting. 
  6. At the top right, click Close .

Change your speakers and microphone settings

  1. On your computer, open meet.google.com.
  2. Join a video meeting.
  3. Before you join or during the meeting, click More and then Settings .
  4. On the left, click Audio and thenthe setting you want to change:
    • Microphone
    • Speakers
  5. Optional: To test your speakers, click Test.
  6. At the top right, click Close .

Filter out background noise

Turn on noise cancellation before a meeting

  1. Go to meet.google.com and then select a meeting.
  2. Before you join, on the top right, click More options More and then Settings Settings.
  3. Click Audio .
  4. Turn on Noise cancellation.
  5. Click Join now.

  1. On the bottom, click  More options More and then Settings Settings.

Have Meet call your phone

From within a dial-out supported country, you can use Meet to call US or Canadian phone numbers. If your organization turns on Meet Global Dialing, you can use Meet to call more international numbers.
  1.  Choose an option:
    • If you’re in the meeting, click More Moreand then Use a phone for audio.
    • If you’re in the green room of a meeting, on the right, click Join and use a phone for audio.
  2. Enter your phone number.
    • Tip: To save your number for future meetings, check the Remember the phone number on this device box.
  3. Click Call me.
  4. When prompted, press 1 on your phone.

Turn on captions during a meeting

Turn captions on or off

  1. On your computer, go to Google Meet.
  2. Join a meeting.
  3. At the bottom, click Turn on captions  or Turn off captions .

Change the language

  1. At the bottom of the meeting screen, click Menu 3 dot menu icon and then Captions .
  2. Choose a language and then Apply.

Mute a participant's microphone

  • Point to a person’s image > click Mute .
  • At the bottom right, click People People.
    • Next to a participant's name, click Mute .

Mute all participants' microphones

  1. During the meeting, from the bottom right, click Host Controls .
  2. From the side panel that opens, toggle Turn on their microphone on or off.

Tip: After you turn off Audio Lock, participants must manually turn on their microphones.

Turn off all participants' cameras

  1. During the meeting, from the bottom right, click Host Controls .
  2. From the side panel that opens, toggle Turn on their video on or off.
 Tip: After you turn off Video Lock, participants must manually turn on their cameras.
